The clients required a state-of-art newspaper printing press to accommodate two lines of machines with provision for future expansion to double the capacity. Times of India’s Pune Press is located at Chinchwad, the industrial zone of Pune. The 3 acres site was slightly undulating with an outcrop of rock. The built form is a homogenous uninterrupted space with functional areas divided on two levels around the double height press hall. The offices at the upper levels overlook the main hall. The exterior is formal white with traces of magenta, green and yellow.

The green reflective glass curtain wall provides glare free light to the press hall and dominates the southwest elevation. The structure is reinforced concrete with structural steel beams in the double height areas. The entire building is environmentally controlled. The offices and pre-press areas are centrally air-conditioned. The press hall is provided with positive pressure to keep it dust-free. A curved screen wall with large punctures is provided along the building to screen the various service risers. The project observed stringent quality control and absolute time management to ensure completion in the stipulated 7 months.
